They still look really sharp and were competitive in there day.

Experts you should follow

Some of these technical tidbits you may have seen before if you are an LS veteran, but remember that not everybody has your depth of knowledge. So with that said, walk out to the garage, open your tool drawer, and get wrenching on that new LS project. This will fill the oil pump cavity and prime the pump. We learned a trick from George Richmond at Melling the oil pump gurus on how to pre-lube the oil pump, and it works on all LS engines. Remove the oil passage plug at the front of the driver side of the engine block.

What I’m trying to accomplish is build a Jeep that is relatively tough but I don’t need to do hardcore wheeling. I’ve been there and done the “drive it like you stole it” thing in Trucks, cars and boats. After many years of bleeding money I’ve calmed down a bit.

tach wiring

L07 – Lotus Yellow Condition: The car was not going and had suffered an engine fire with most of the rear bonnet burned and also some damage to the rear of the roof and rear window area. I restored it in the next few months and registered the vehicle with the registration No. The car was used as my main transport around town and for country trips etc. I was also involved in competition car rallying in 4 cylinder Fords at that time.

Although I was impressed by the balance and handling of the standard Europa it was really not fast enough to get the adrenaline going so I spent some time thinking about how to get the car to accelerate faster and also improve its top speed.

C , black C , blue C , black, 3 wires. Some of the wires inside these links are made BOLD. This typically means this wire is needed or very useful in a stand alone harness setup. C2 information is in these links. Info is more complete for , Later years should be similar, use circuit ‘s to compair. Around , the engines no longer had EGR, so that does away with 5 wires. The differences in the ‘s don’t matter a bit when making a harness stand alone.

Very detailed info for what to remove, keep, etc is just a few lines down, I leave all this info so you can see changes year to year if you lik.

How do i hook up a tach? It’s a regular ol’ autometer tach. So it mush be driven by one of those magneto adapters?? FYI this car was built in the late 70’s. Reply.

Once you have selected a mounting location, you can run the four wires that operate the tachometer. The tachometer is designed to show the engine RPMs or rotations per minute. Autometer has designed their tach to be used with four, six and eight cylinder engines with the only requirement being that you must calibrate the tachometer during the installation process. If you have a four cylinder engine, clip the two looped wires on the back of the tachometer with wire cutters. For a six cylinder engine, clip just the brown wire, and for an eight cylinder engine do not clip either of the wires.

Select an open switched power source in the fuse box to connect the red wire to. Most fuse boxes have several positions in the fuse box that will allow you to connect a wire to them using a spade connect. Check your owner’s manual for a key that indicates what is available in the fuse box. Crimp the connector onto the wire with a pair of crimping pliers and insert the connector into the slot you selected in the fuse box.

Connect the white wire to this wire using a crimp-on wire tap. Close the two halves of the connector around the white wire and the instrument light wire. Squeeze the metal tap on the connector down with a pair of pliers and snap the cover on the connector closed.

I drilled out the plug, and put a 12 gauge wire in the hole, long enough to reach the face of the connector. With the 12awg wire being so dense, there is no way the pin could not make great contact. This wire is on Pin 34, which is right in one of the square connector’s corners. You’ll see it right away.

Outboard Tachometer Applications Notes: a. RPM tachs are for Inboard & I/O gas engine applications only b. RPM & RPM tachs are for all.

The FI version has a blind hole near intake 3 for the temp sensor II. If you use this head as part of your engine project you don’t have to worry about the hole because it’s blind. If you have the head from the 74 bus, then you’ll notice two holes on either side of the intakes. These are not breather openings to vent pressure from behind the valve cover. They are air injection holes to allow oxygen to be introduced into the exhaust stream to help burn unburned mixture after burning.

Two tubes were hooked up to those ports which lead to an air pump that way driven off the pulley. Removing the air pump is a good ideal because it’s overly complicated and not very effective. Some people rebuild their engine using these heads and have no idea why there is soot in the engine compartment or why it’s so noisy.

The holes have to be plugged up after the pump is removed. Two tubes are screwed into the holes and they are difficult to remove sometimes without stripping the threads. After removing the tubes you need to plug the holes and the best way to do it is with a 10×1 valve adjusting screw and some Loctite

Installing Aftermarket Gauges In Your Classic Car

The first three entries came from a recent issue of “Street Rodder” magazine, and are reasonably accurate, except for the weights. Without knowing precisely what ancillaries are included, a real comparison can’t be made for weights. Length can vary tremendously by the choice of water pump and pulleys, and height will depend on the intake set-up. The fourth entry was obtained by subtracting the weight savings of aluminum heads from the third entry.

The last three entries came from my own measurements, and are very precise.

Oct 20,  · I recently picked up a used autometer tachometer that I wanted to hook up to the truck. The tach has four wires coming out of it. Green, black, red, and white. I have looked for an install guide for autometer tachs online and found out what wires are what. Green = “tach” output on distributor Black and white= ground Red = 12V power when lights are on. I hooked it up exactly like what I just wrote, .

How to Connect a Tachometer to the Chevy By Amanda Harrell ; Updated July 30, A tachometer is a tool which measures speed in revolutions per minute, or rpm, at which an engine shaft is rotating. A tachometer is usually found on the dashboard of a car, but you you can buy a separate one to measure your engine’s rpm if needed. If your Chevy engine has a broken tachometer you can connect a new one in your vehicle.

The process is fairly straightforward if you have basic auto repair knowledge. Instructions Mount the tachometer above the steering column or on the dashboard of your vehicle using the supplied hardware and tools recommended by the manufacturer. Run the wiring of the tachometer from the vehicle’s interior to the engine compartment. Locate the black wire and hook it up to the battery. Locate the ignition coil.

Aug 05,  · GEN IV E38 Tach Settings for aftermarket tach (autometer) between the tach output and 12V to Pull-Up the Output signal to a usable voltage for aftermarket tachs Here is how I came up with these numbers, for the people who care I have done testing to verify everything. Used this info to hook VHX gauges on an E38 ECM. The only.

You could get a chrome or a black bezel, but choosing colors was like the first Model T: So just about everyone had generic looking gauges, and the only thing that stood out was where you mounted them. If you like the nostalgic look of those old gauges, you can still get that sort of gauge today with either a mechanical or electrical sender. Auto Meter’s Custom Shop allows you to customize your gauges to match or contrast your car. With the various colors and sizes of automotive LEDs available, you can choose just about any color for the back lighting.

We contacted Dakota Digital to get some insight into the technology behind their new VHX series of gauges. These new kits combine the look of analog gauges while being completely digital in function. We also looked what Auto Meter has for the both enthusiast and motorsports, as well as AEM Electronics and Innovate Motorsports , who offer gauges that handle specific functions to help tune and monitor crucial information. If you want to customize your gauges, Auto Meter allows you to design your own custom gauges on line in their Custom Shop using hundreds of combinations.

Your choices on gauge faces, bezels, lighting, color, style, fonts and pointers are almost endless. You will pay a little more, but if you want to match or contrast your car, you have that option now. When it comes to gauges, a few searches on the internet can have you completely overwhelmed with choices.

Goldsmith Whether you have a factory, OEM tachometer or an aftermarket gauge, proper installation with the electric spark system is crucial to getting an accurate reading. Most tachometers are designed to plug directly into the coil or HEI port on most distributors. This OEM-centric paradigm is of little help to numerous hot rodders who have installed an aftermarket MSD ignition control system into their vehicles.

Mar 21,  · This is a discussion on autometer tach hookup within the Interior Mods forums, part of the Tech & Modifying & General Repairs category; I’m trying to install an autometer tach in my 05 STi and I don’t know where to hookup the wire.

Please follow the post completely for details of the process. Throttle response is not delayed, I expected it to have a delay like most modern fuel injection cars do. Throttle response is as instant as a carburetor. No more high to low engine rev at startup, it starts and stays right at rpm. Best part is, I can change this with the handheld controller. Engine has never ran this consistently cool before.

I have a thermostat, usually my car would get as hot as It now stays between So far so good! Now with the process of installing… W72 shaker air cleaner clearance The first thing I did when I got home was test the FiTech with my 78 shaker air cleaner. As you can see in the pictures I did not undo the wiring around the throttle body until after the test fit.

Luckily it clears, but just. This test was without a gasket between the throttle body and air cleaner, which has given me a touch more space since I took these pictures. Test fit of FiTech in W72 air cleaner Note:
